COVID-19 Study

Education Development Center

Background

In May through October 2020, EDC conducted a study to help EDC projects better understand the effects of COVID-19 on project beneficiaries and the ways that beneficiaries are resilient to multiple shocks and stressors during the pandemic. The purpose of this research is to (A) provide project management and stakeholders with useful information to help shape short-, medium-, and long-term responses, and (B) contribute to a larger understanding of resilience among project beneficiaries.

The seven participating projects, listed below under "Participant Projects," are in the order in which they began collecting data. Research participants include teachers, principals, parents, and youth. Each project collected data from approximately 250 to 500 individuals via a close-ended phone survey administered by field staff. Beneficiaries are asked questions about COVID-19 prevention measures, access to basic needs and services, health, education, livelihoods, violence, and how they are coping during the pandemic. Each project engaged in up to four rounds of data collection over several months.
